TRUE RICHES
What if the youths knew that the true worth of their lives is not measured in the abundance of possessions, nor is it in how renowned they are, or how much knowledge they are able to obtain? Surely, they would have ceased to chase the fleeting treasures of this world, they wouldnβt take wealth as first, nor would they have made it their chief affection, they certainly wouldnβt make fame their idol.
Would that the old had known that the life of a man is like grassβfrail and fickle. Today it flourishes and tomorrow it shrivels away, then they wouldnβt have spent their prime years in impulsive zeal and reckless enthusiasm thinking time was at their disposal. They paid no attention to the fact that there are set times and cycles for all things under the heaven, and refused to retain in their knowledge that man is only but dust; hence, his life is destined to fade away as time continues passing by. Only for the evil days to come, catching them unawares, filled with regrets.
If it were that the simple knew that thereβs no forgiveness after death, and that physical death isnβt the conclusion of all things but a passage into a life where his deeds in this present life will be examined, determining where heβs going to spend his eternityβeverlasting life or shame and everlasting contempt, then he would live like the prudent, making the utmost use of his time on earth, acknowledging and seizing every opportunity, using it with wisdom and carefulness because the days are full of evil.
Supposing ladies knew that their utmost inheritance is not their beauty, neither is their worth in how many men they can lure to bed, that their essence is not in how many ornaments they adorn themselves with, they would not spend their whole lives pursuing corruptible gold to adorn a corruptible body, nor would they toss their bodies around like a-plaything passed from hands to hands.
Had the dead known in life what he now knows in death, he would have stored his treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust corrupts, where thieves cannot break in and steal.
O, ye people, seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, for the worth of manβs life isnβt in the abundance of what he possesses, but rather, it is in a life lived and labours done with eternity in view.
Think on these things. Selah!
